In the landlocked midland town of Loughborough, some eighty miles from the nearest coast, the stout-hearted shipmates of ShantyFolk have been gladdening the hearts of local landlubbers with stirring songs of shipwreck, Jamaica rum, and their distant darling Nancy for many a year.
This harmonious band of inland shantymen are all proud members of Loughborough Male Voice Choir. All doubloons, pieces of eight and gold moidores that we raise through our singing go into the treasure chests of the charities which we are currently supporting. Our rousing repertoire includes traditional capstan and halyard shanties, modern seafaring ballads, original compositions, and a scattering of well-known folk songs – all given the unique ShantyFolk treatment in performance. You’ll know the words to many of our favourites, and we heartily urge you to sing along.
